For the visitor to Mozambique useful facts, currency
and visa regulations.

PASSPORTS & VISAS
All visitors must have passports (minimum validity six months)
and visas (obtainable from embassies, high commissions and consulates)
There are rumours that some borders and airports may issue them
on arrival, don't count on it and obtain a visa before arrival.
They cost US$82 | R615 - valid for 30 days
Multiple entry visas are also available.
South Africans do not require visas for holiday, only for business
At the South African land border (Lebombo/Ressano Garcia) you
can choose the currency in which you want to pay for your visa,
meticais being slightly cheaper than rand |

LANGUAGE
Portuguese is the local language.
English is widely spoken |
CURRENCY
Mozambique's local currency is the Meticaisl - divided into 100
centavos.
US$, ZAR, British pounds and Euros are freely convertible at commercial
rates at any bank or exchange bureau
It is advisable to carry cash or travelers cheques as credit
cards are not widely accepted.

Health
& Immunisation
a course of anti malaria tablets is strongly advised. Vaccinations
against hepatitis A, polio tetanus and typhoid are also recommended.
A yellow fever certificate is required for those
arriving from infected areas.

WHAT TO WEAR
for most of the year, light weight clothing is a must. During
the winter months (June - August) pack a sweater or jacket for
the chilly evenings.
In restaurants "smart casual" is the norm (short sleeved
shirts and slacks for men, blouses and skirts or informal dresses
for women).
Topless sunbathing is frowned upon.
When visiting game reserves neutral colours are preferred.
Shorts and safari shirt sin brown, beige, dark green or khaki
are best.
Wear sensible walking shoes and take a hat for protection against
the the sun.
In the evening it is advisable to wear long sleeved shirts and
slacks as protection against mosquitos.

GETTING THERE
Mocambique covers an area of over 800 000 sq. kms - 3 times the
size of Great Britian.
Getting between major destinations can take days not hours.
Roads are generally in poor condition, although significant improvements
are underway.
You can take the Intercape Mainliner, +27 861 287 287, from Johannesburg
to Maputo.
These buses run in both directions on a regular basis, one in
the morning, and another overnight, and are safe and affordable.
